After struggling with my daughter through her schooling for years, I began trying to figure out what I needed to do. I started focusing more seriously on helping her at home, but I wasn’t quite sure how to go about making things better. I started talking with her teachers about how to make positive changes, and it was neat to see how much better things became. We began working through various things, and it was really powerful to see how much happier she was with a great educational plan. Check out this blog for tips on teaching your kids more effectively from the comfort of your own home.
If you want to learn how to fly, you will need to go to a flight school. Before you start looking, however, below are four tips to help you choose one that will work best for you. You can then get signed up and start your flight training.
Part 41 or 61
One of the most important things to consider before you choose a school is if you want to attend a Part 41 or 61 school. The main difference between the two is part 41 flight schools train their students using training courses that have been approved by the FAA. These schools go by the course strictly.
Part 61 on the other hand is not as strict. This is because it allows you to train at your pace instead of at a set schedule. This will give you much more flexibility when it comes to the lessons you take and the times you attend classes.
Consider your personality when choosing between Part 41 and 61. For example, if you are the type of person that needs discipline to get things done then Part 41 would work best for you. If you do well on an unstructured schedule and have a lot of discipline, Part 61 would be best.
Condition of Aircraft
When you visit a flight school you are interested in ask them if you can look at their aircraft. They should have no problem with you doing this. The aircraft they have should not be old and run down. Ask the instructor how old each plane is. The training school should also have many planes if they are a larger school.
Ask the school when the planes are maintained and how often this is done. Many schools will let you look at their maintenance logs.
All of this is important as you will be spending a lot of time in the air and want a safe airplane.
Condition of School
The condition of school may not affect your training, but you do not want to attend a flight school that is dirty and not in bad condition. For example, for the exterior look for unkempt lawn, dead flowers, dead bushes, etc.
Look at the inside of the school at the condition of the flooring, walls, and bathrooms. Look in the classrooms to see if the desks are in good shape and that they are clean. If a flight school does not take time to take care of the exterior and interior of their building and property, they may not take the time to take care of their students either.
Talk with a few schools to help you decide what would work best for you.
